Today’s trial verdict, not guilty, sends a strong message to all of us who dare to stand up to injustice, to all who refuse to let the world stay as it is: the system will not protect us. It is not justice; it is incitement. Our hearts go out to Jacob Blake and his family, to Gaige Grosskreutz and his family, to the families of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, and to everyone who filled the streets with the call that Black Lives Matter. We grieve with you.

We recognize how integrated white supremacy is in the capitalist system we live in, and we must continue to rage against these structures at every turn. As socialists, we recognize the police exist as an institution that protects only property, capital, and entrenched power. That’s why the police identified Rittenhouse and his fellow vigilantes as “friendlies” on their radios. That’s why they declined to arrest Rittenhouse after the shooting. That’s why they let him go home that night. They were on his side. They will never be on the side of the working class. We support the calls to not only defund, but also to demilitarize, disarm, disband, and to build a world where police are obsolete and abolished.

None of this is new. The right continues to incite violence against those who demand more than white supremacy and racialized capitalism. The institutions of this country were not designed for justice or real democracy, but the right would like to use violence to destroy the little democratic space that has been hard-won by generations of struggle against this country’s institutions of power. You might be struggling to find hope in this moment, but the only way justice has been won and defended throughout history has been working people getting organized together to fight for a different future, joining together to dismantle white supremacy that divides the multi-racial working class, and makes traitorous collaborators of its reactionary white elements.

Our commitment as DSA is to build an organization together that can bring in more and more people who will work together to abolish the system we have, to dismantle white supremacy wherever it festers, and to build the just world we all deserve. We remain resolved in our vision for a country where justice looks like well-resourced communities, where justice is no longer theater, where justice means we are all free.

El veredicto del juicio de hoy, no culpable, envía un mensaje firme a todos los que nos atrevemos a hacer frente a la injusticia, a todos los que se niegan a dejar que el mundo permanezca como está: el sistema no nos protegerá. No es justicia; es incitación. Nuestros corazones están con Jacob Blake y su familia, con Gaige Grosskreutz y su familia, con las familias de Joseph Rosenbaum y Anthony Huber, y con todos los que llenaron las calles con el llamado que las vidas negras importan. Estamos de luto con ustedes.  

Reconocemos lo integrada que es la supremacía blanca en el sistema capitalista en el que vivimos y debemos seguir enfureciendose contra estas estructuras a cada paso. Como socialistas, reconocemos que la policía existe como una institución que protege solo la propiedad, el capital, y el poder arraigado. Es por eso que la policía identificó a Rittenhouse y sus compañeros vigilantes como “amigos” en sus radios. Es por eso que se negaron a arrestar a Rittenhouse después del tiroteo. Es por eso que lo dejaron ir a casa esa noche. Estan de su lado. Nunca estarán del lado de la clase obrera. Apoyamos los llamamientos no solo de desfinanciar, sino también a desmilitarizar, desarmar, disolver y construir un mundo en el que la policía está obsoleta y abolida. 

Nada de esto es nuevo. La derecha sigue incitando a la violencia contra quienes exigen algo más que la supremacía blanca y el capitalismo racializado. Las instituciones de este país no estaban diseñadas para la justicia o la democracia real, pero a la derecha le gustaría utilizar la violencia para destruir el pequeño espacio democratico que ha sido duramente ganado por generaciones de lucha contra las instituciones de poder de este país. Puede ser que en este momento estás luchando para encontrar esperanza, pero la única manera en que justicia se ha ganado y defendido durante toda la historia ha sido gente organizándose para luchar por un futuro diferente, uniéndose para desmantelar la supremacía blanca que divide a la clase obrera multiracial y hace colaboradores traisorosos de sus reaccionarios elementos blancos. 

Nuestro compromiso como DSA es construir una organización que pueda reunir a más y más personas que trabajen juntos para abolir el sistema que tenemos, para desmantelar la supremacía blanca dondequiera que se cuente, y para construir el mundo justo que todos merecemos. Seguimos resueltos en nuestra visión de un país donde la justicia se parece a comunidades con recursos suficientes, donde la justicia ya no es teatro, donde la justicia significa que todos somos libres.
