From Maria — Short Term and Long Term Work
When a Norfolk-Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, pouring toxic chemicals into the community, Ohio DSA chapters including Mahoning Valley, Akron, and Columbus together with our National Labor Commission and Green New Deal Campaign Commission mobilized for both humanitarian and political responses.
We’re helping meet the immediate need of delivering clean water, and building working class power in the economic and formal political realms are necessary long term projects we do as socialists. Disasters like these will be preventable when we run the economy for people, not profits. For now, the ruling class owns the corporations, and it owns most of the politicians, but we’re the workers and we’re the voters. There are more of us than there are of them — it’s just a matter of getting organized!
Check out some great opportunities, whether you are just getting active in DSA or have some DSA campaigns under your belt, in this email. The first one is tonight! And we need you.
Maria Svart
DSA National Director
Tonight, Thursday 3/9 — Join Green New Deal Building for Power Launch Call
The DSA Green New Deal Campaign Commission is excited to tell you that in 2023, we are Building For Power! It’s time to create labor-oriented legislative campaigns to enact GND-focused reforms at local and state levels around public power, green social housing, public transit, and public spaces.
We’re poised to intervene in state and local battles over newly allocated federal resources with coordinated, focused, organization-wide campaigns. Join us tonight, Thursday 3/9 at 8pm ET/7pm CT/6pm MT/5pm PT to learn how we’re Building for Power and how you and your chapter can get involved!

Monday 3/20 March Labor Corps Solidarity Call — What is a Contract Fight?

This month we’ll answer the question “What is a contract fight?” Join us Monday 3/20 at 8pm ET/7pm CT/6pm MT/5pm PT to learn more, hear from others, and share updates from your chapter!
Apply for the National Political Education Committee! Deadline Friday 3/31
The National Political Committee is looking for nominees to serve on the National Political Education Committee from May 2023 through April 2024! As the DSA committee charged with providing a socialist political education to its members and the public, NPEC welcomes members with substantial roots in diverse areas of DSA. Chapters and national bodies can submit nominations.
Convention Proposal Submissions Open Now Until Friday 4/14
The 2023 Convention proposals submission period is open now through Friday 4/14! This includes Resolutions, Constitution/Bylaws Amendments, and Platform Amendment proposal submissions. Any member or group of members in good standing can submit a proposal.
The Resolutions Committee would like to highlight some changes to this year’s process.
- All proposals now require 300 signatures from members in good standing. To help with this, we are launching a Proposal Hub where you can collect signatures for your proposal.
- Resolutions now require Work Plans to provide delegates with more details about your proposal.
