Seeking Operations Director

Location: New York City

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest democratic socialist organization in the United States and has experienced massive growth over the past two years. We now have 36,000 members and over 150 groups in 50 states and the District of Columbia engaged in movement-building, public education, direct action, advocacy, and electoral politics. Our goal is to build multi-racial working class power and win transformative reforms like Medicare for All, protect programs like Medicaid expansion at the state level, support a stronger labor movement, and elect socialists to office, all while shifting the public framing around capitalism and democratic socialism.

This full-time position is based in DSA’s national office in New York City (lower Manhattan). The position reports to the National Director and works with 11 other staff. The Operations Director will provide some support to DSA Fund, our sister 501(c)(3) educational organization.

DSAers Strike Down Barriers to Reproductive Justice

As part of our support for reproductive justice, DSA chapters across the United States participated in the April Abortion Access Bowl-A-Thon for the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF). The NNAF provides grants and support for people who face economic barriers to receive abortion services. Click Read More for how you can donate — there's still time!

So far, our 26 DSA teams have raised over $81,000 to help low-income pregnant people access abortion care. We must keep fighting to protect the right to safe abortions and expand access — especially for low-income communities and people of color.

DSA stands with immigrants — no DACA repeal!

Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions have announced their plan to end DACA — a program that allows undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children the opportunity to work and live in peace.

Right now, DSAers across Texas are working with immigrant rights groups to protest Trump's plan and demand better. DSA Santa Fe raised money for a legal clinic helping immigrant students and workers fight deportation. Chapters from New York to California have held smart, creative events supporting sanctuary cities. In Long Beach, California, DSAers even showed up at a local comic con to encourage their community to adopt sanctuary city status. And DSA's national Anti-Racist Working Group is stepping up its immigrant self-protection and solidarity work.

M4A Chapter Activist Training Call: How to Pass a Medicare for All City Council Resolution

June 30, 2018

Saturday June 30th at 4pm ET/3pm CT/2pm MT/1pm PST

In March, Philadelphia DSA members showed up in droves with healthcare workers, community members, and elected leaders to pass a Philadelphia city-wide resolution supporting the Medicare for All Act of 2017 and affirming universal access to healthcare as a human right. This victory showed that in a city where the poverty rate is over 26%, city council leaders learned where to stand when it comes to universal healthcare. To move a national campaign to win Medicare for All, we need to build support from a broad range of cities and municipalities across the country. With some research, planning, and lobbying, you could work with city council members to pass a resolution of support in your city too!
