From the National Political Committee — Winning the Future
Dear comrades,
It’s now been three years since COVID-19 drastically altered our world — killing millions, altering how we organize, and showing how the capitalist class will sacrifice us in the name of profit. All the while, we are running up against the clock, as the IPCC report released earlier this week indicates the “rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a livable and sustainable future for all.” It’s easy to fall into despair and cynicism, but we know that organization is our best tool to combat the fear that comes easily and to nurture the hope that this work requires. As the largest socialist organization in the country, we must create opportunities for creative and diligent efforts to act collectively on demands that will build a democratic future for all of us.
And DSA is rising to the challenge. Members from Ohio to Georgia have been on the front lines of the fight for justice against corporate giant Norfolk Southern. You can join us Sunday 4/2 to learn how residents of East Palestine, Forest Defenders, and railroad workers are coming together to fight the billionaire class to defend our communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure. NYC DSA is marching on Albany to demand transformative action like the Build Public Renewables Act (BPRA) to avoid catastrophic climate change and unleash the future. And DSA members have been active in the historic and successful effort to reform and democratize the UAW, which recently elected a new leadership on the UAW Members United slate.
Chapters are rallying against the horrific attacks against our trans comrades in states like Florida and Georgia, as well as defending abortion rights in Missouri and South Carolina. Our International Committee continues to mobilize against the Cuban embargo, and we recently approved a proposal for a delegation to Cuba this summer. DSA LA is standing with UTLA and SEIU Local 99 and more than 60,000 essential workers, as they demand better working conditions and living wages in LAUSD schools. You can help our strike solidarity efforts, Tacos for Trabajadores, by donating. Our joint project with UE, the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC) is celebrating three years of workplace organizing efforts. You can support these efforts here.
Internally, we are gearing up for our Spring Conference, where hundreds of leaders from DSA and YDSA will gather for three days to strategize and organize toward future victories. We’re continuing to plan our 2023 Convention, where a little over 1,300 delegates will gather in Chicago this summer! Stay tuned to our Convention home page for updates, as delegate and at-large elections and NPC nominations kick off on Tuesday 4/4. We’ve also implemented a hub for resolutions to gather signatures.
As we look to the future, we must also mourn those who we lose along the way. We are saddened to learn of the death of Eucy, a Seattle DSA member, and will honor her life and all who’ve been killed by these violent systems by redoubling our commitment to building a socialist future where housing is a human right and where poverty, inequality, racism, sexism, and transphobia are relics of the past. There’s plenty to be angry about, but as organizers, we have a responsibility to show our class that socialism is the future. This can only happen if we work together and shine a light on a world that is not guaranteed but must be concretized through the work we put in every single day. Here’s to winning the future.

Join Our Green New Deal Campaign Training Series! Apply by Friday 3/24
Does your chapter want to do climate organizing work, especially a legislative campaign at the state/city level? Would you like to learn how to build a campaign from scratch? Come join the strategic training series offered by DSA’s Green New Deal Campaign Commission and the Growth and Development Committee. The series begins Tuesday 3/28. Sign up here by Friday 3/24. And bring 2-3 comrades — when we train together, we win!
RSVP for Electoral Convention Resolution Discussion Call Sunday 3/26
Join the National Electoral Committee (NEC) for its Convention Resolution Discussion Sunday 3/26 at 8pm ET/7pm CT/6pm MT/5pm PT to learn more about the NEC’s resolution. Members will have the opportunity to share thoughts and ask questions.
Help Elect Socialist Candidate! Volunteer Shifts Monday 3/27 Through Monday 4/3
Congrats to ALL FIVE of Chicago DSA’s alder incumbents for winning their elections. And challenger Angela Clay made it to the runoff for the 46th ward — can you sign up for at least one phonebank with fellow DSA members and supporters? Volunteer shifts are available from Monday 3/27 to Monday 4/3.
Clear the Track for Worker Power — Join Us Sunday 4/2
DSA members from Ohio to Georgia have been on the front lines of the fight for justice against corporate giant Norfolk Southern. Join our webinar Sunday 4/2 at 5pm ET/4pm CT/3pm MT/2pm PT to learn about how residents of East Palestine, Forest Defenders, and railroad workers are coming together to fight the billionaire class to defend our communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure. This call is sponsored by DSA Labor.
Help Comrades Come Together Through the Solidarity Fund
Next month, YDSA and DSA members will be traveling to Chicago for a first-ever joint conference bringing YDSA members and DSA members focused on building electoral and labor work together. But travel and lodging costs money! As a member-funded working class organization, it’s up to us to make sure that our conferences and conventions are accessible to all members, regardless of financial circumstances. Pitch in today to sponsor a comrade’s travel or lodging and make sure we’re ready to fight and win for generations to come!
Convention Updates — Delegate Election Information and More!
Heads-up for Convention Delegate election information! Both chapter Delegate Elections and At-Large Delegate Elections open Tuesday 4/4. This week, chapters received an apportionment email with their delegate and alternate count and details about delegate election timelines. Contact your chapter for more details. If you are an At-Large member, you can find more information about At-Large Delegate elections here.
NPC Nominations will also open on Tuesday 4/4. Please check the Convention website for more information. And as a reminder, the proposal submissions deadline is Friday 4/14. You can find more information, including ways to get proposal signatures, here.
RSVP for Confronting the Threat of the Far Right Call Monday 4/3
Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, but the forces he represented and the ideas he furthered — the contemporary US right — haven’t gone away. These forces are continuing their efforts to push the US — both at the electoral and the extra-parliamentary terrains — further towards their anti-democratic vision.
Join the National Political Education Committee Monday 4/3 at 8pm ET/7pm CT/6pm MT/5pm PT for Confronting the Threat of the Far Right. On this call, you’ll hear from Bill Fletcher, John Huntington, and Nancy McLean, three presenters who have engaged with the US far right as analysts, organizers or both. The presentations and discussion will help DSA members in our day-to-day organizing and will provide important context for our political thinking and work through the 2023 convention and beyond.

Meet Your Staff — Tom, Field Organizer
Hello, democratic socialists! My name is Tom. I’ve been an active member of DSA since 2017, when I got involved with the newly-chartered Milwaukee DSA chapter. Over the past six years, I have had experience with several different forms of organizing through DSA: I have served terms in chapter leadership, been active in labor organizing at work, served as a co-chair of Milwaukee’s electoral working group, and have been active in political education at the local level and on NPEC. I’m excited to bring that experience to other chapters. Regardless of what campaigns and organizing you are working on, I hope that we can help each other improve our skills as socialist organizers. Solidarity forever, comrades!
