From the National Political Committee — Comrades in Struggle
Dear comrades,
There’s just a few days left to maximize your chapter’s voice at convention by increasing your chapter’s membership count during the February Membership Drive! We’re excited to see how chapters across the country are bringing in members at a critically important time for DSA. The 2023 Convention will be consequential for the future of our organization and by extension, the future of the Left. And while democracy is not always easy, it is why we are joined together as comrades in a shared struggle toward a world beyond capitalism. Convention is less than six months away, so we’re asking you to say yes to DSA this month and recommit yourself to this moment and to our organization.
We help build organization through debate, discussion, and democratic deliberation, and we get the opportunity to do this at the Convention every two years. To that end, the proposals process is now open for the 2023 DSA Convention. This includes resolutions, constitution, bylaws and platform amendments. Any member in good standing can submit proposals between now and Friday, April 14th using this form. One thing that may stand out is that we have included the addition of work plans alongside submitted resolutions. We agreed that we should be discussing not only what work we do but how we do it. You can hear more about what changes are coming to Convention this year, as well as some of the political implications of this moment, here. Also be sure to check out our Convention FAQ!
Organization is the only way we can fight for the socialist future we need. Another train derailment, this time in Nebraska, highlights how much we cannot afford to allow capital to dictate how we work and live. As we mentioned in this most recent statement, DSA is proud to join Railroad Workers United (RWU) and United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE) in their demand for Congress to place railroads under public ownership immediately. You can sign up here to help East Palestine residents and help prevent future rail disasters.
We have a world to win — and it’s going to take imagination, care, and a commitment from every single one of us to make our vision a reality.
Love and solidarity,
Your National Political Committee
P.S. As mentioned in the Dispatch earlier this month, applications for the NPC vacancy close at 11:59 pm PST TONIGHT. If you’re interested in serving, you can submit your candidacy here.
Tonight, Thursday 2/23 — Join Our Labor Salting Call!
Looking for a way to join the labor movement? Want to organize your own workplace but… you need a workplace?
You might consider becoming a salt. It’s a century-old tradition of socialists and leftwing organizers to join a workplace with the intention of organizing a union there. But it’s not easy, and you can’t do it alone!
So join us tonight, Thursday 2/23 at 8:30 ET/ 7:30pm CT/6:30pm CT/5:30 PT for our Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee’s Salting 101 call! On this call, you’ll learn more about what salting is and how it’s done. For more information, email [email protected].

DSA Rail Disaster Solidarity — Support Mutual Aid in East Palestine
When Norfolk Southern train 32N derailed in East Palestine, Ohio on Thursday 2/3, nearly half of its cars were carrying toxic chemicals. Thousands of East Palestine residents evacuated, and upon return were told not to drink the water. With Akron DSA’s support, Mahoning Valley DSA is raising money to support area mutual aid efforts. Give today!
RSVP for Sunday 2/26 Labor Corps Call on Rank and File Strategy
Have you heard about the Rank and File Strategy? Maybe your chapter has ordered the DSA Rank and File Strategy pamphlets. You know we need to merge the socialist and labor movements, because the organized working class is the only force with both the power and the material interest to transform society.
Join us Sunday 2/26 at 5pm ET/4pm CT/3pm MT/2pm PT to learn how DSA chapters are doing it, where we’re having the most success, and what steps your chapter can take. You’ll hear from DSA members who joined the fight and became respected leaders and organizers in their industry, and how their DSA chapters are supporting this crucial work.
Membership Drive Resource — 25% Off Socialist Feminist Magazine Lux!
Lux, the left’s leading feminist magazine, is offering 25% off new subscriptions to all DSA members during February’s membership drive!

Abolition Working Group Call Tuesday 3/7 on Responding to Police Violence
Police in the U.S. killed at least 1,176 people in 2022 and have harmed and harassed more people than will ever be counted. They have arrested protestors in the streets after a murder has occurred, and have targeted activists, organizers, and encampments resisting police violence and expansion. This meeting provides space for chapters to learn how DSA members have organized in response to police violence and why organizers across “issues” need to see this as part of their work as socialists. See you there!
Workplace Organizing Training Series Starts Wednesday 3/8 — Spaces Limited
Trying to organize your workplace? Want to support others organizing their workplaces?
Join the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee’s Foundational Training this spring to learn how to organize workers. This four-part series starts Wednesday 3/8 and introduces workers and organizers in non-unionized shops to the basics of workplace organizing.
In four 90-minute weekly sessions, we’ll discuss how workers can unite to address issues at their workplace and begin the process of unionization. You’ll hear from experienced organizers and other workers organizing their own workplaces. Together we’ll practice connecting with coworkers and engaging in collective decision-making around common concerns. Participants will also learn how to prepare themselves and their coworkers to take collective action. Finally, they will learn how to lay the groundwork for unionization.
Two upcoming trainings are open for registration: Wednesday evenings in March and Thursday evenings in May. Space is limited to 200 participants. Register Here Today!
Thursday 3/9 — Join Green New Deal Building for Power Launch Call
The DSA Green New Deal Campaign Commission is excited to tell you that in 2023, we are Building For Power! It’s time to create labor-oriented legislative campaigns to enact GND-focused reforms at local and state levels around public power, green social housing, public transit, and public spaces.
We’re poised to intervene in state and local battles over newly allocated federal resources with coordinated, focused, organization-wide campaigns. Join us Thursday 3/9 at 8pm ET/7pm CT/6pm MT/5pm PT to learn how we’re Building for Power and how you and your chapter can get involved!
Join the BDS and Palestine Solidarity Working Group “No Appetite for Apartheid” Campaign!
In May 2022, the BDS and Palestine Solidarity Working Group launched the No Appetite for Apartheid national boycott campaign, targeting the food industry’s complicity with the occupation of Palestine. Less than a year into the campaign, we have had some exciting wins with stores all across the country pledging to become Apartheid Free Stores!
More and more DSA and YDSA chapters are joining the campaign and mobilizing in their local community. Email [email protected] to schedule a campaign presentation for your chapter, and check out our website to learn more about the campaign.
