Cornel West is a prominent and provocative democratic intellectual, author of Race Matters, Democracy Matters, and his new memoir, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud, as well as numerous other books he has written or edited. He has taught at Princeton University, Union Theological seminary, Yale University, Harvard University, and the University of Paris. He appears frequently on the Bill Maher Show, Colbert Report, CNN and C-Span as well as on Tavis Smiley’s PBS TV Show. He can be heard weekly on Tavis Smiley’s PRI radio program. He served as honorary chair of DSA until this position was abolished at the 2017 convention.

This workshop is for those who have already had an introduction to democratic socialism, whether from DSA’s webinar or from other sources. Prepare for conversations about socialism that happen when you table or canvass. Join Steve Max, a founder of the legendary community organizing school, the Midwest Academy, to practice talking about socialism in plain language. Create your own short rap. Use your personal experience and story to explain democratic socialism.
