Why DSA?
The Democratic Socialists of America has grown rapidly. In the last few years we’ve seen an incredible surge in membership. Democratic socialists have been elected to office throughout the country, from city council to federal congress. And passionate members are making change in communities both urban and rural. It’s an exciting — and challenging — time to help transform our society. Come join our staff and be part of the fight for a better future.
We believe in equity
We are committed to democratic socialism, feminism, anti-racism, anti-heterosexism, anti-ableism, and building a mass movement of poor and working class people.
The Workplace
DSA staff work all over the country. Some work remotely from their homes, others split time between home and office. Staff are based throughout the United States, depending on the requirements of the specific job. Our main office is in the Financial District of New York City.
Staff Benefits: We Support our Workers
As democratic socialists, we are committed to workers’ rights, and we put our beliefs into action. Our staff benefits reflect that.
Health is important
One of our priority campaigns is to fight for Medicare for All. Staff have fully paid health, dental, and vision insurance for themselves and their spouse/partner and/or dependent children.
Work/Life Balance
Staff are encouraged to use all vacation time because we work hard the rest of the time. We offer 3 weeks vacation in the first year and 4 weeks after that, plus personal days and sick leave.
Starting a family
As socialist feminists, we believe staff have the right to take fully paid parental leave. Therefore we offer 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
Investing in Staff Development
We believe that everyone has the capacity to learn and grow. We hold regular staff retreats to strategize and collectively find ways to improve our support for member organizing. Staff members are also provided a yearly stipend for professional development resources.
An engaged workplace
DSA staff are proud union members of CWA Washington–Baltimore News Guild. We believe strongly in the right for staff to share their opinions and have ownership over the work that they do.
