The Socialist Summer School is a great venue for YDS activists and allies to learn, bond, and brainstorm. We want to hit the ground running for social justice & YDS when the new school year begins. 2007 is shaping up to be a great year for activism. Increasingly, the proverbial wind is blowing in our direction. There is a growing openness towards social change, but there are no guarantees. Therefore, we must unite our progressive politics with a coherent vision and with action, focusing on the socialist foundation of issues such as the Iraq War, Labor, Immigrant Rights, Student Debt, Racism, Sexism, etc.

Praxis: Putting Theory into Action
Why the Socialist Summer School is Important for You
The importance of this YDS gathering is that we discuss both how we understand oppression AND how we?ll fight it. We must both comprehend the system we are up against and have a sense of how we shall create positive change through our action. Absent a strong critique of capitalism, any activism is merely reformist in nature.
During many workshops, we?ll brainstorm local and national organizing and prioritize actions & events. Just as importantly, we will converse, debate, and vote on our Activist Agenda. This national document states our activist priorities and goals. The two Activist Agenda items up for discussion are Student Debt and Immigrant Rights. You can submit your opinions early on these two issues by clicking on the blog here.
