Occupy Wall Street and the 2012 elections demonstrated that we stand at the beginning of a new political era. But the progressive movement faces a crisis of leadership. The Right uses red-baiting against even the most modest of reforms which might control corporate power. Many progressives fear identification with the “s” word and thus run towards the center, inherently unable to name the root cause of our economic inequality as the capitalist system. In this ideological vacuum the entire political debate shifts to the right.

The Left must create a new vision and a new mission rooted in a new sense of purpose. Democratic socialists have an historic opportunity and responsibility to play a central role in the founding of the next Left, and DSA is prepared to meet this challenge.

We invite you to join us in this effort! All members of DSA receive a subscription to our quarterly magazine, Democratic Left and automatic access to DSA's (Virtual) Little Red Schoolhouse, our activist webinar training series.

Is Fixing the U.S. Economy Just Political Will?

November 10, 2014 · 30 rsvps
Online - web-based seminar

No, some things can be fixed but others can't.

Sign up for a three-session online webinar/seminar series with Steve Max, DSA Vice Chair and founder of the Midwest Academy community organizing school. (If you signed up for the first or second session -- don't sign up again. But we are accepting new RSVPs.)

This seminar is part theory, part recent history and part contemporary observation from a Marxist viewpoint.  The presentation style is easy to follow and no particular background is needed. We'll note the surprising views of a few enlightened capitalists and discuss how the U.S. became a debtor nation, how profits from financial speculation outpaced manufacturing, and the big question: how might the jobs come back?

Seminar dates: September 11, October 9, and November 10.

NOTE: seminars are scheduled for 9pm Eastern, 8pm Central, 7pm Mountain, 6pm Pacific.
