Cornel West is a prominent and provocative democratic intellectual, author of Race Matters, Democracy Matters, and his new memoir, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud, as well as numerous other books he has written or edited. He has taught at Princeton University, Union Theological seminary, Yale University, Harvard University, and the University of Paris. He appears frequently on the Bill Maher Show, Colbert Report, CNN and C-Span as well as on Tavis Smiley’s PBS TV Show. He can be heard weekly on Tavis Smiley’s PRI radio program.

Join DSA member and labor historian Susan Hirsch in discussing Union Maids (1976). Nominated for an Academy Award, this documentary follows three Chicago labor organizers (Kate Hyndman, Stella Nowicki, and Sylvia Woods) active beginning in the 1930s. The filmmakers were members of the New American Movement (a precursor of DSA), and the late Vicki Starr (aka Stella Nowicki) was a longtime member of Chicago DSA and the Chicago Women's Liberation Union.
