At 5:30PM we are
showing an acclaimed video:
Never Turning Back: The World of Peggy
Lipschutz. This 32-minute film of one woman’s unwavering commitment to art,
peace, justice and social change. Peggy Lipschutz, a DSA Member, is an artist,
book illustrator, political activist, labor unionist, feminist, pacifist,
humanist. The Director and Producer, Jerri Zbiral, will lead a short
discussion following the film screening.
At 6:30PM we have a Dutch-treat
dinner (separate checks) at the Prairie Moon Cafe, which is located across the
Street from the hotel. The Prairie Moon Cafe is moderately priced, offers
a good range of selections and is recommended by local DSA members as well as
the hotel. However, I must know who wants to participate
in order to make a large enough reservation. At
the last two conventions this event has been quite popular. To reserve your spot
please email me today or tomorrow at the
latest.
After dinner Labor historian Rosemary Feurer will
make a presentation on the role of radicals in Illinois labor history. She is an
associate professor at Northern Illinois University, and the author of
Radical Unionism in the Midwest,1900-1950 (2006), which
uncovers the history of the role of radical ideals and community-based
organizing as a catalyst for the labor movement building in the 1930s. Much of
the talk will focus on Mother Jones. She and her husband will be participating
in the dutch-treat dinner.
At 4PM we expect to be
able to hand out packets and name badges to delegates.
See you in
Evanston!
