About this newsletter:
This newsletter will
inform participants in DSA's National Convention about the logistics of the
convention as well as late news that will impact participants.
Convention Fees:
Convention fees are due in advance of the convention. There is a $25
penalty for on-site payment of fees. If you have not already
done so you should pay (unless your local is paying the fee) the $175
registration fee as soon as possible. Checks should be mailed so that they
will arrive at the national office (75 Maiden Lane #505, NYC, NY 10038) by Nov.
6th. You may pay on-line with a MASTERCARD or VISA by clicking here.
Convention Materials:
A snail mail package of materials has been sent to
delegates and alternates (if we had your current address).
Check DSA's Convention Page frequently (click here) for new material or if you don't want to wait for the
mail.
Copying facilities: The will be a computer and printer available to delegates.
We will also be able to reproduce materials to distribute to
the convention delegates. However the three hotel setup will
make availability less convenient than it has been at past
conventions. The Holiday Inn has a business center available to its
guests. At least one computer and printer will be located in the
union hall. We will reproduce official documents including local reports and one
page NPC candidate statements and place them in the Delegate Packet provided
they are received electronically no later than November 2. Documents may be
submitted as email messages or as microsoft word attachments. If you miss the
deadline we strongly encourage you to bring 100 copies to the convention,
however if necessary we will reproduce late reports and distribute them as soon
as possible. To email me a document for the packet click here.
Literature Displays: Local DSA newsletters, Local DSA Literature and other information
that would be of interest to delegates may be displayed on the general
literature table. We recommend bringing 50-100 copies of material
that you would like to share with delegates.
Vegetarians and Vegans:
If you require a vegetarian or vegan alternative
to one of the provided meals we need to know in advance of the convention.
(We do not need to be informed if you are not a
vegetarian.) If you require an alternative meal please email me today by
clicking here.
Travel Share Assessments:
Travel share assesments will be collected as delegates pick up their convention
packets. A preliminary estimate will be collected at check-in . Once we have all
the information the Final Travel Share assessment will be announced.
Delegates whose transportation cost is less than the
Travel Share Assessment pay the difference into a fund that will be used
to subsidize those who costs are above the Assessment. Delegates should be sure
to have their check book or credit card with them and their travel cost when
they check in. The Travel Share System is maintained by the DSA Fund. As of yet
we do not have enough information to set the estimate however it is very likely
to be between $250 and $300. It would be very helpful if you could email me the
cost of your ticket. Click here to
do so.
