Millions of Americans share our socialist values - solidarity, social justice, economic democracy, anti-racism, feminism and personal freedom. Our nation's history - from the abolitionists, to trade unionists, to civil rights and feminist activists - is a panorama of struggles on behalf of these values... American values and socialist values.

"DSA is part of a long American tradition from Eugene Debs to Michael Harrington. I'm proud to be a member of a movement for change that puts the cause of working people at the heart of the matter."

We belong to DSA because it is the organization in America that brings together all of these values. We come from many different movements and institutions. What unites us is our commitment to socialist values. That's why we belong to DSA. We invite you to join us.

"I feel both proud and supported by being a member of the DSA, where economic progress is always linked to compassion, individual rights, the environment, and most importantly, a constant openness to new ideas and new voices."

How much influence can a small organization have on the direction of political life in America? DSA is by far the largest democratic socialist organization in the United States, with an influence that extends way beyond its numbers. There is no important progressive institution or movement in which DSA members are not prominent. Likewise, through the Socialist International, DSA is connected to other socialist and labor parties around the world. That's an advantage - and a necessity - in this global economy.

"DSA is the major organization on the American Left with an all embracing moral vision, systematic social analysis, and political praxis rooted in the quest for radical democracy, social freedom, and individual liberties."

DSA is an activist organization, not a political party. From promoting single-payer health care, to combating Congress' war on the poor, to proposing democratic alternatives to the power of the transnational corporations, DSA is central to struggles to advance a progressive America. This struggle is carried on not only by prominent leaders, but more importantly, through the work of DSA activists in communities and on campuses.

"DSA carries on a fine old American tradition - the tradition represented by Eugene Debs, Mother Jones, Martin Luther King, Elisabeth Cady Stanton, and thousands more. I'm proud to be a member."

America's right-wing built powerful movements around big ideas and fundamental values. Their leadership is motivated and organized... ideologically. We progressives need to proclaim our big ideas and our fundamentally democratic values.

"Active organizing for democracy is needed now more than ever. For this to succeed, both working and poor people - who are the majority - have to have a voice. DSA is one of those voices.

So, take the next step. Stand up with us for your socialist values. Join with us in affirming a progressive future for America.

"I am a radical democrat because of the profound economic inequality, racial suffering, gender oppression, and class conflict in American society. DSA is one of the most progressive forces in our nation to address these monumental ills."

DSA works on immediate struggles as we build a long-term movement for social change. To join DSA is to contribute to a movement which builds coalitions across single-issue movements and which educates the public about the threat posed to democracy by unbridled corporate power. The growth in the power of global capital threatens the possibility of democracy both at home and abroad. We are part of an international socialist movement fostering solidarity across national borders in order to construct an alternative to the "new world order" of capitalism. But as residents of the most powerful capitalist nation, we recognize that our greatest act of international solidarity is to build a vibrant, multicultural left in the United States. We invite you to join us in this effort, an effort worthy of a lifetime of commitment.

"For me, solidarity, civil liberty, and social justice can all be summed up with three simple letters - DSA. As a democratic socialist, DSA provides me with the support and structure I need to promulgate the important issues that would otherwise be ignored."
