BERNIE SANDERS
TO SPEAK AT DSA NATIONAL CONVENTION
U.S. Senator
Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will be the keynote speaker at DSA's National Convention,
addressing the convention dinner Friday, November 9th. This will mark the
first time that a U.S. senator, let alone a self-identified socialist senator,
has addressed a socialist organization in the United States. The dinner will
recognize the work of Charles Flemming, president of the North Georgia Central
Labor Council and Alice Lovelace, chief organizer of the U. S. Social Forum held
in Atlanta this past summer.
BILL FLETCHER
TO SPEAK AT CONVENTION RALLY FOR ECONOMIC & SOCIAL
JUSTICE
Bill Fletcher,
Jr. will be the keynote speaker at a rally for social and economic justice to be
held Saturday night November 10th as part of the program of DSA's national
convention in Atlanta November 9-11th. The speakout and
rally has been co-sponsored by Georgia UNITE/HERE, 9-5, and AFSCME Local 1644.
Nancy Lenk, the assistant director of Local 1644 will moderate the
rally program. To view the rally flyer click here.
SUPPORT YOUTH PARTICIPATION
IN
DSA NATIONAL CONVENTION
More than a dozen Young
Democratic Socialist (YDS) members are planning to participate in DSA's
National Convention. Increased student and youth participation is an important
organizational and political goal for DSA. We are extremely pleased at this
development. We need your help to pay for their participation, and they are not
cheaper by the dozen. If you believe, as we do, that youth participation is
important enough to pay for, we need your help. Tax-deductible
contributions to underwrite these costs can be made to the DSA Fund. The
convention registration fee is $175 and we are underwriting some of the travel
and housing costs as well. Click on the contribution you would like to
make:
CONVENTION WEB
PAGE FEATURES PROPOSED RESOLUTIONS
The website for
DSA's Atlanta convention contains important logistical information
about, the official call to, and the temporary rules for the convention.
Additionally, DSA members can nominate themselves to be delegates to
and register for the convention. Draft convention
resolutions have been prepared and posted for review,
consideration and discussion. A full schedule has also been
posted. You can visit the site now by clicking here.
STILL POSSIBLE TO BECOME A DELEGATE
Even at this late date
interested members can serve as delegates if they are able to get to Atlanta
this November 9-11th, and there is a vacancy in their local delegation or they
are an at-large member. If you are a member in good standing and think you would
like to attend as a delegate email the DSA National Director to indicate your
interest. The email should include all of your contact information. You can send
the email by clicking here.
