DSA AT THE U.S. SOCIAL FORUM IN ATLANTA
 
 
DSA members and friends attending the Social Forum should join DSA at the following events:

A discussion of the importance of using the power of a well financed government to counter corporate power and build the power of social movements. Speakers: Edward Elam: Edward is a leader in the progressive Hand Party and spearheading a literacy project in Louisville. Emahunn Campbell: Emahunn is the leader of the Black Student Union and Young Democratic Socialists clubs of University of Virginia at Wise. Mary Smith: Mary sits on the Student Advisory Board for Campus Progress and was active in the United Leftist Front at the University of Central Arkansas. David Duhalde: David is the National Organizer for the Young Democratic Socialists and will moderate the discussion.

A discussion of restoring progressive taxation and the need for appropriately funded government to respond to the challenges of the 21st Century. Participants: Adrián Boutureira, education specialist from United for a Fair Economy; Alan Essig Executive Director of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute; Frank Llewellyn, DSA’s National Director. Barbara Joye, Secretary of Atlanta DSA, will moderate the session.

The Economic Justice Agenda (EJA) is DSA’s new project to build a progressive coalition on economic justice issues.  Speakers: DSA Honorary Chair Frances Fox-Piven, DSA Vice-Chair Jose LaLuz, and Steven Schnapp, Education Coordinator of United for a Fair Economy. Copies of the most recent draft of Toward an Economic Justice Agenda will be available.
