MEMORIAL MEETINGS SET FOR DOROTHY RAY HEALEY IN WASHINGTON, DC AND LOS ANGELES

A memorial meeting for Dorothy Ray Healey will be held in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, August 20th at 2:00 PM at the Josephine Butler Center, 2437 15th St., NW, at Meridian Hill.

A Los Angeles memorial has been set for September 24th also at 2:00 PM. The site has not been finalized but it is likely that it will be held at the Southern California Library.

Richard Healey, Dorothy's son and one-time DSA NPC member, set up a web site that is  collecting obituary notices, photos, and individual tributes. It will have the latest information on the memorial services. Click on the enclosed link to go directly to the site.

DAVID DUHALDE NAMED NEW NATIONAL YOUTH  ORGANIZER

David Duhalde was born and raised in New York City in a leftist family with strong ties to DSA, the labor movement and socialism.  An activist at the Bronx High School of Science, and at Bowdoin College in Maine, he became a member of national YDS during his sophomore year.

His college experience includes the AFL-CIO Union Summer program and an internship at the Hong Kong based China Labour Bulletin.  David was the primary organizer of the YDS chapter at Bowdoin  and served in several  national leadership positions.

David graduated from Bowdoin in May 2006 with majors in Government and East Asian Studies. He was selected as one of two seniors to speak at the graduation ceremony.

Prior to accepting the position as DSA's youth organizer David worked as an assistant director for the Democratic National Committee's 50 State Plan fundraising effort for the summer. David will begin working later this month.

THREE CHEERS FOR NICHOLE

Many thanks to Nichole Shippen for stepping into the breach and serving as interim Youth Organizer for the last two months. She brought exceptional leadership, talent, intelligence and skill to the position. YDS and DSA are better off for her service. Nichole is returning to complete  her doctoral work at Rutgers University.
